US coronavirus: Florida has the makings of the next epicenter, experts say | Corona Virus news | Scoop.it

Meredith Clarke's insight:

The development of the virus in Florida could be very dangerous due to the large number of nursing homes and retirement communities.

Angie Zopp's curator insight, June 26, 2020 11:20 PM
Florida has recently experienced a major spike in the number of new reported cases of COVID-19.  In fact, they saw their largest increase since the pandemic started.  They are one of 9 states experiencing record-high seven-day averages of new coronavirus cases per day, and one of 23 states on the upward slope.  Experts attribute this concerning trend to opening up too soon and not completing the social distancing period that was required.  We are also reminded that this is not a second-wave because we have not yet finished the first wave.  Public health experts warn that the virus is still very active and things will not get back to normal any time soon.  States with increasing cases should implement "significant levels of social distancing."
